The University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) proudly presents its inaugural interdisciplinary international research conference, titled “Embracing
Innovations and Change through Interdisciplinary Perspectives.” Scheduled to take place from June 23–26, 2025, this in-person conference will be
hosted at UGBC’s campus in Tain Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Guyana.
Meet Our Keynote Speakers
Prof. Netra Chhetri
Netra Chhetri is a professor at Arizona State University whose interdisciplinary research bridges climate adaptation, technological innovation, and global development. His work examines how institutional and technological responses to climate risk can be made more inclusive, ensuring that the benefits of innovation reach the most vulnerable. A contributing author to the IPCC’s Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports (Working Group II), his scholarship on the climate sensitivity of global food systems has informed both academic discourse and policy-making. His research has been published in Nature, PNAS, Annals of the Association of American Geographers, and other leading journals. Netra views higher education as a platform for cultivating critically engaged, globally minded graduates equipped to tackle the defining challenges of the 21st century. He also serves as Associate Editor for the Politics of Technology section in Frontiers in Political Science and sits on the Editorial Board of The Professional Geographer.
Dr Diana Frost
Dr Diana Frost is an Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy, Analytics and Operations at Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham. She teaches data/business analytics to MSc and MBA students and supervises doctoral research. Her own research primarily focuses on health systems strengthening and digital health innovation in low- and middle-income countries, though her research interests also span other areas that focus on digital inclusion and technology adoption in underserved communities. She has led and collaborated on several international research projects and is currently engaged in three research projects funded by UK government and agencies that all explore how digital innovations and data-driven decision-making can be leveraged to strengthen public services and reduce inequities. She is the Senior Editor of Health Policy and Technology journal, and a peer reviewer for several other academic journals. Dr Frost has a multidisciplinary background and holds an interdisciplinary PhD from Tufts University; MSc (University of Oxford); and BSc (University of the West Indies).
Mr. Patrick Chinedu
Mr. Patrick Chinedu Onwuzirike, Mr. Chinedu, as he is called in Guyana, is originally from
Nigeria, where he undertook primary and secondary education. He is a trained Mechanical
Engineer and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration specialist. He holds two Master's Degrees in Thermal Energy and Education Management, Supervision, and Planning and is currently a
candidate for the Doctoral Programme in higher education leadership at the University of the West Indies.
He started his career at the GTI as a lecturer and served as the Principal of the GTI and NATI, the ACEO-T and DCEO-T. He is currently the Director/CEO of the Council for Technical and
Vocational Education and Training (CTVET). He is the founding member and first president of the Guyana Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation Association (GARVA). Since 1998, he has also worked with the Ministry of Agriculture and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) through the National Ozone Action Unit (NOAU) to assist Guyana in maintaining compliance as a signatory to the Montreal Protocol and subsequent revisions.
He is a part-time Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the School of
Humanities of the University of Guyana. He is also a Member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Staying In Guyana
Conference Venue
The conference will be held onsite at the University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC). The opening session on Monday morning will occur in the UGBC Auditorium, and the presentations will occur in classrooms on the site.
Location of UGBC
The University of Guyana, Berbice Campus (UGBC) is located in Region 6, East Berbice, Corentyne. Region 6 is bordered by Suriname to the East, the Atlantic Ocean to the North, Brazil to the South, and Regions 5 to the West. East Berbice has three towns and several villages located along the Corentyne coast. The distance between Cheddi Jagan International Airport and Rose Hall town, the town closest to UGBC, is approximately 160 km, or 100 miles. Depending on traffic conditions, this distance can be covered in 3 ½ hours.
The distance between Ogle airport to Rose Hall town is 104 km or 56 miles and can be covered in 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.
